Mets interested in former Giants closer Brian Wilson

The New York Mets are reportedly interested in free agent pitcher Brian Wilson.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson reportedly watched Wilson in a private workout on Saturday. It is not clear if Wilson pitched off of the mound on the workout.

"The Beard" is reportedly garnering interest from at least 9-10 teams at the moment. He is expected to be cleared by Dr. James Andrews for spring training.

If he signs with the Mets, he would get the closer job. In a corresponding move, Frank Francisco would be moved to the setup role.

In April 2012, he underwent his second Tommy John of his career and missed the rest of the season. After the season, he was non-tended in November and became a free agent.

He was with the San Francisco Giants from 2006 through 2012. In his Giants career, he has a 20-20 overall record with a 3.21 ERA. He has 171 saves and 340 strikeouts.
