Mets, Bisons extend contract

July 22, 2010

The New York Mets and Buffalo Bisons (Triple-A) announced a two-year extension of their player development partnership on Wednesday.  The new agreement runs through the 2012 season.

"The Mets have proven to our organization and our baseball fans that they care about winning and the team they put on the field in Buffalo," said Bisons owner Bob Rich. "The success that many Bisons players have had this season in Buffalo and then in New York has been vital to the success of both teams."

Much of the Mets minor league system is within New York, with teams in Buffalo, Binghamton (Double-A) and Brooklyn (Single-A Short Season). The proximity of the affiliates not only helps facilitate player movement between the different levels of development, but also helps build fan support for the parent club at a local grass roots level.
