A Metro North eastbound Pascack Valley Line train from Spring Valley, NY to Hoboken, NJ struck a motorist Sunday morning at Montvale, NJ after the driver failed to stop at the protected crossing as the gates began coming down. It is believed the 16 year old driver got scared as the flashers and gates began coming down while near the track past the gates and attempted to back up but accidently placed car in forward and struck the train. No one on the train was injured nor was the driver.
The train is owned by Metro North and operated under contract by NJ Transit who supplies crews and equipment.
