Methodist University and Claremont Mudd Scripps' Tain Lee maintain their previously established positions atop the leaderboard heading into the final round of the men's 2010 NCAA Golf Championships.
All players competed on the Hershey Links course in dry albeit cool conditions today. The team from Methodist University extended their lead by three shots after firing their best single round score of the tournament - a 1-under 297. Methodist leads Huntingdon College, which shot a third round score of 2-over, by five strokes. Guilford College, Oglethorpe University, and St. John's University (MN) round out the top five teams currently leading the event. The low team round of the day was a 2-under 295, which was fired by Oglethorpe University. Their solid performance moved them into fourth place. They still have a lot of work to do, however, if they wish to catch Methodist University. Oglethorpe trails Methodist by 13 strokes.
For the second round in a row, Methodist University's top player, Josh Schrader, lead the team, thanks to a 4-under 68. He is alone in second place. Schrader took 35 strokes to complete his first nine and polished off the back nine in 33 strokes. Schrader birdied five holes during the course of his third round - four of which came on the closing nine. The only blemish on his card came on the 17th hole, which he bogeyed. The 17th hole is a 440-yard par-4, which has played as the third toughest hole on the course thus far. The par-5 16th hole is playing as the most difficult on the course. Players are averaging nearly one stroke over par on the 610-yard hole that sports out of bounds looming just left of its fairway. Click here to continue reading.
