A methamphetamine lab was found at the law office of Patrick Burson of Wayland by the Michigan State Police some time back in June of 2012, and after analysis of the substances by a lab, Burson had something waiting for him.
A warrant for his arrest.
Wednesday, the 28th, Burson turned himself in to the Allegan County sheriff's department. Shortly thereafter, he was arraigned in 57th District court on several criminal complaints consisting of:
- Four counts of operating/maintaining a methamphetamine lab, and
- Two counts of possession of methamphetamine
Apparently, his law practice wasn't doing to well, and more than briefs were flying out of his office windows, and doors.
In addition, Burson's home was also raided according to woodtv.com.
Two women from the Otsego area, 36-year-old Sherry Cunningham, and 28-year-old Polly Gates, are also charged in the case according to detroit.cbslocal.com.
Just goes to show no one is immune from the draw of drug manufacturing, selling, abusing, and/or becoming addicted to them.
Unfortunately, if he is found guilty, the sheepskin hanging on his office wall attesting to his education, and career will be worthless, as will his bar license.
If this attorney was also using the drug, he may have some angry clients out there as well. Analyzing cases while tweaking is not conducive with sound legal practices.
Gates and Burson face up to 20 years in prison, and Cunningham up to 2 years. Their next court date is scheduled for December 6th.
Peace...
