At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Saturday evening, March 16, 2013, U.S. Border Patrol agents intercepted at the Interstate 8 checkpoint near Pine Valley a 41-year-old male Mexican national in a 1999 Jeep Cherokee. Agents referred the man and his vehicle for a secondary inspection where the Border Patrol K-9 team performed a cursory inspection of the vehicle that resulted in an alert.
Upon searching the vehicle Border Patrol agents discovered 25 bundles of methamphetamine concealed inside a back seat cushion. The narcotics weighed 28.22 pounds and had an estimated street value of $564,400. The narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation. The subject was arrested and transferred to the San Diego Metropolitan Correction Center. The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
