As many in Russia looked to the skies to view a meteor shower, a normally awesome out of the world event turned to shock and fear as eyes and video cameras witnessed a fireball shooting across the sky or Friday morning. The falling of intergalactic rock caused destruction and injuries according to the Russian Emergencies Ministry.
A meteor sized event caused devastation in its wake.
In the early hours on Friday a meteor hit Russia's Ural Mountains in Chelyabinsk. The meteor resulted in a fireball blast causing shockwaves and a shower of rocks falling. Russia's National Emergency Management Center chief Vladimir Stepanov reported that the meteor event caused damage in the Chelyabinsk region. According to Stepanov damage appeared to have affected the upper floors in approximately 297 buildings including six hospitals and 16 schools and preschools . Glass shards caused injuries to over 500 people.

People were ready to witness a meteor shower, instead they saw a flash of fire shooting through the sky before hearing an explosion followed by the shockwave rocking the buildings and lives in the area. With the massive shower of rock most injuries have resulted with cuts from shattered glass from the buildings and fortunately no deaths have come from the event.
The Russian Government is on site to investigate.
As reported from Russian Emergency Ministries the shockwave caused the roof of a zinc-processing plant warehouse to collapse. Luckily there were no deaths as a result. Emergency repairs have been made. The ministry has deployed 20,828 people and 3,982 pieces of equipment to the area to survey the damage and collect meteor samples. Radiation levels have been monitored and reported to be normal.
"The sky is falling" is probably what many shouted as the rock fell from the atmosphere. Chicken Little got it right this time. Although humans believe that they can control everything in their lives the environment reminds people that they cannot. Money will not fix the weather or out of world occurrences. Nature actually has control and it is time for humans stop fighting the natural world in order to live peacefully.
