Metamorphosis is a strange word which means a change into a different physical form. It also means transmutation, transformation which are other words used in science to mean metamorphosis. The word "metamorphosis" is not in the Bible, but the word "change" is. The word "translated" which means change is in the Bible. Later in the article, I will discuss what the Bible term "translated" means to a Christian.
Some people believe that metamorphosis is an evidence for evolution. They believe that a tadpole "evolves" into an animal that has legs and spends most of its time on land. But this is farther from the truth, actually the process of metamorphosis defies explanation based on evolution. During metamorphosis, fins do not evolve into feet and legs, and gills do not evolve into lungs. When the tadpole turns into a frog, all the information to do this is in the egg. It is not by accident or mutation. In fact, if a mutation does take place in the egg, the tadpole usually dies or becomes crippled.
The most incredible metamorphosis is what takes place in the life of a butterfly. A lot of us have seen butterflies, especially the Monarch butterfly. It is awesome how it starts out as an egg, then a caterpillar, which forms a cocoon and then emerges from the cocoon as a beautiful butterfly. As a butterfly it no longer eats leaves but flies freely from flower to flower. soon it will mate, lay eggs and then dies. This cycle repeats itself again. Did you ever observe a cocoon of a butterfly? The caterpillar spins a cocoon around itself and then dissolves into a jelly type mass. The evolutionary process could never produce a butterfly by changing a caterpillar into a mass of jelly. But God, the Master Engineer of the universe, programmed a mass of jelly to develop into a marvelous delicately sculptured butterfly, with everything perfectly designed for a way of life entirely different from that of the caterpillar that dissolved into a jelly protoplasm.
Back to the word "translated". This word should have a very special meaning to a Christian. It did for Enoch! "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God" (Hebrews 11:5)(KJV).
One day it will with us who believe by faith and received the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour. We will have a metamorphosis that will change us and give us a glorified body for all eternity. "Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed " (I Corinthians 15:51-52)(KJV).
"For our conservation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself" (Philippians 3:20-21)(KJV).
