Metallica’s Robert Trujillo joins Rodrigo y Gabriela for a Metallica medley

The most metal flamenco guitar duo on planet earth, Rodrigo y Gabriela, recently had the honor of being joined onstage by Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo during their show at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado on August 17.

Long noted as fans of Metallica, Rodrigo y Gabriela have also stated Metallica has been a huge influence to their style of guitar playing, whether it is their attack, soloing, or rhythm, it is apparent throughout their music. Metallica bassist, and fellow Mexican and friend, Trujillo has sat in with the duo several times over the years, and did so once again at the guitarist’s show in Colorodo, playing a medley of four songs in 15 minutes.

Rodrigo y Gabriela weren’t too secretive about their special guest as they posted a photo on Facebook asking “Can you tell who is on stage with Rod and Gab at soundcheck?”, with Trujillo’s back to the camera.

The fan-shot video above (with part 2 here) really shows just how good the duo are, with Gabriela’s incredible percussive slap-technique and Rodrigo’s masterful soloing, keeping up with Trujillo on classics “Orion”, “For Whom The Bell Tolls”, “Frayed Ends of Sanity”, and ending with “Battery”.

The Red Rocks show was Rod y Gab’s last show for the summer in support of their latest album 9 Dead Alive, but they will be out on the road again in October hitting Florida, Texas, and Illinois, to name a few. Full dates and venues are listed below.
