Metallica played in Antarctica over the weekend inside a small dome on a heliport at the Argentine Antarctic Base Carlini. The event that was called “Freeze Em Up” had only 120 people in attendance and they were scientists from Russia, South Korea, China, Poland, Chile, Brazil and Germany, according to MSN.com on Dec. 10.
All those folks crammed into a little glass dome in the middle of a cold barren Antarctic runway for a few hours of magic, said the band. The small but powerful concert was the result of the Coca-Cola Zero contest for fans.
The band played the entire concert without amplification. The music was transmitted through head phones, which added another unique piece to this concert. The “energy was amazing” as the band jammed for their guests.
This show in Antarctica put Metallica in an elite group all on their own. They are the first band in history to play on all seven continents. The event was live-streamed, but it was also recorded to play at a future date. Check out the video above.
