Metallica Antarctica: Band braves Antarctic weather, rocks out at 'Freeze' show

A Metallica Antarctica performance had the legendary band breaking records and braving the weather this week down south as Metallica took part in their “Freeze ‘Em All” show. The band appeared in an encased dome to keep out the freezing cold this Sunday for an audience of roughly 120 people, but the music and concert was said to be the most “unique” they’ve ever done, MSN Entertainment reveals this Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013.

The Metallica Antarctica show took place at the Antarctic Base Carlini, and marked the great band as one which can now boast they have played on every continent on earth. Although the crowd may have been small, be sure that all in attendance were Metallica fans, and in addition to featuring lucky scientists from across the globe, also welcomed contest winners from Latin America. As part of Antarctic electric protocol, no amplification was allowed during the show (due to possible danger in the freezing and fragile tundra), so fans instead had to use headphones to hear the killer sounds.

Fortunately for most of us, the rock-out performance was live-streamed, and will eventually be presented on video for future release. It's a good thing, too, because though the dome was much warmer than the chilly weather outside, just making it to the freezing performance earned it as something totally "unique" for the band.

"This was the most unique show Metallica has ever done," the band wrote on its Facebook page. "The band, contest winners, research station scientists (from Russia, South Korea, China, Poland, Chile, Brazil and Germany), and the ship crew, all crammed in this little dome out on the helipad of Carlini Station in ANTARCTICA! The energy in the little dome was amazing! Words can not describe how happy everyone was."

A total of ten songs were played during the Metallica Antarctica concert, again making the hour-long show a record-breaker for Metallica as the first and only band to play together on seven continents. Here was the brave musicians’ set list at the rocking out "Freeze 'Em All" show:

Metallica's Antarctic Set List:
1. "Creeping Death"
2. "For Whom the Bell Tolls"
3. "Sad But True"
4. "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)"
5. "Master of Puppets"
6. "One"
7. "Blackened"
8. "Nothing Else Matters"
