Hideo Kojima has commented on the importance of “Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes” in regards to the story line of “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.” According to a report by Softpedia on Oct. 25, the game director mentioned that “retaliation” is one of the main themes from the plot of fifth main installment of the “Metal Gear Solid” series.
As a result, players won’t be able to understand why the main character, Snake, has to retaliate unless they play through the story of “Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.” You can take a look at several screenshots from both forthcoming titles in the slideshow near the top of this article and Hideo Kojima’s comments below (courtesy of Softpedia and Polygon):
Unless you play GZ, you won't understand why retaliation is one of MGS5's main themes. It really is the 'ground zero' of Snake's story.
Hideo Kojima also re-confirmed the timeline of the two video games. “Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes” will take place in the year of 1975 while “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain” is set in 1984.
Both software products are being developed on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms using the newly-crafted Fox Engine. “Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes” has been described as a prologue to “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain” as it will set up the story and introduce several gameplay elements from the main title.
