Hideo Kojima has provided more comments in regards to the controversy surrounding the erotic design of one of the characters in the upcoming multiplatform video game, “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.” According to a report from Gaming Bolt on Dec. 3, the game director told IGN in a video interview that he is “actually surprised” that there were so many female fans of the “Metal Gear” series.

He went on to explain that his company won’t just “show a hot girl without reason” when talking about Quiet, hinting that there is more to her character. Hideo Kojima stated that players will be able to understand the erotic design by playing through “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.” You can find a screen of Quiet, along with other shots of the video game, in the slideshow to the left of this article and the comments from the interview below (courtesy of Gaming Bolt and IGN):

I was actually surprised to learn that there are so many female Metal Gear fans and I am very happy to hear that. I can tell them though they are probably mistaken as to why the character looks like this. I only ask them for their patience. Until they can see how she interacts in the game first off, she shows off in the desert and she is almost naked. That’s impossible and would never happen.

So right then I want the players to ask themselves ‘why is this character almost naked in the middle of the desert?’ From there you have this impression and then you start to understand the reasons behind it. That’s where the deception of the character comes from. We’re not a game company that would just show a hot girl without reason.

Quiet was first featured in a trailer that was shown off during this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. The sniper can be seen wearing a bikini top and thong with ripped leg stockings. Several media persons and fans weren't happy with the character design, forcing Hideo Kojima to defend it.

“Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain” will be coming out in the future for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
