Hideo Kojima, the director responsible for “Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes,” has provided some hints in regards to a potential link for Major Zero and the Patriots in the story of the upcoming video game. According to a report from Gaming Bolt on Feb. 23, Big Boss has to deal with two types of opposition.

The first are standard Marines who are just performing their duties on a base. The game director encourages players to put these individuals to sleep if possible. On the other hand, the XOF are the antagonists of the story. This group is responsible for torturing prisoners and other dastardly actions.

Leading the XOF is Skull Face. When asked if the commander has any connections with Major Zero and the Patriots, Hideo Kojima responded by hinting that the relationship “will be portrayed” is some form. You can find some screens of Skull Face and other characters in the slideshow to the left side of this article and the comments from the game director below:

I guess the only thing that I can say is that there’s Skull Face, there’s Major Zero – the relationship between them will be portrayed. That’s as far right now as I can say without spoiling.

The plot of “Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes” will lead up to “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain,” which is set a decade later in the 1980s. The former will be coming out first with a release date set for March 18th on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms.
