With the spring and summer months upon us it is a sure sign that new music and tours from some of our favorite bands will be on the horizon. New music from metal legends Judas Priest is on the way for fans this summer with their latest album entitled “Redeemer of Souls” having its cover debuted this week via the bands official Facebook page. The album already has a song on itunes for fans to listen to and the entire album is slated for release on July 14 in the UK and July 15 in the US. Another dose of new music for metal fans is already out and is from former Sepultura and current Soulfly leader Max Cavalera. His new side project is called Killer Be Killed, a “super group” that consists of Max and members of some other well-known metal bands for a good sound that has hints of all the members regular bands in the music for Killer Be Killed. They have a self-titled debut album that was released on May 13. There is also new music being rumored to come out from Anthrax, Slayer, Body Count, Cannibal Corpse, Sixx A.M., Slipknot, and even Metallica. As for summer tours there is always the usual big mega act events but there are also some star studded tours with co-headliners such as the Def Leppard and KISS tour, the farewell tour for Motley Crue with Alice Cooper on it and one of the best local events will be the annual “GWAR B Q” event that is put on by RVA legends GWAR and will be a tribute for the recently passed Dave “Oderus” Brockie . This event will have a lot of meaning for fans and friends of the man often called the father of metal in Richmond and will be a fitting final send off for “Oderus” with such acts as Hatebreed and Body Count taking part in the concert.

Other “odds and sods” to look out for in the metal, punk and hard rock world in 2014 include Nick Cantanese formerly of Black Label Society’s new band and music, Kittie have successfully met and beat their goal on their campaign to raise money for their documentary DVD and biography so fans can be on the lookout for the Ontario metal bands projects, also there have been rumors of Sumo Cyco album in the works as well as a new album from Aussie guitar goddess Orianthi. As with all the albums or tours listed in this article please check the artist Facebook, Twitter or official websites for all release dates and concert information.
