Actor Meshach Taylor was terminally ill and died Saturday night. This comes as a huge surprise to many who remember the Emmy-nominated actor for his role as Anthony Bouvier in the sitcom, "Designing Women." USA Today reports June 28 that Meshach was surrounded by his wife, children, and mother when he passed away at 10:47 p.m., according to his son, Tariq Taylor and agent, Dede Binder. He was 67.

Taylor was in hospice at his family's home in Altadena when he died.

For those who remember, Meshach portrayed an assistant to four women who were fashion designers in "Designing Women" and starred Dixie Carter, Delta Burke, Annie Potts, and Jean Smart. He famously played window dresser, Hollywood Montrose in the film, "Mannequin," that came out in 1987 -- and the sequel in 1991.

Among other roles the actor had, The Hollywood Reporter goes to report that Meshach had also appeared on "Dave's World," "MASH," "Cagney and Lacey," "Golden Girls," and the "Drew Carey Show," among many others. The actor also had his own HGTV show titled, "The Urban Gardener."

Meshach Taylor had been terminally ill for a while after a long battle with cancer, TMZ reports exclusively.

Meshach's family posted this statement on his Facebook page June 27:

"It is with love and gratitude that we sorrowfully announce that our darling, amazingly brilliant and dynamic, Meshach, the incredible father, husband, son and friend has begun his grand transition."

Taylor married actress Bianca Ferguson ("General Hospital)" in 1983 and is also survived by his children: Tariq, Yasmine, Tamar and Esme.

When Meshach Taylor was terminally ill, he seemed to have the genuine support and love of family around him. He played beloved characters and will be missed by many co-stars he appeared on television with.
