Meshach Taylor of ‘Designing Women’ dead at 67: Family mourns loss of actor

Actor Meshach Taylor died at the age of 67 after battling colorectal cancer this Saturday in Los Angeles. Taylor received hospice care while fighting his terminal illness at his Altadena home before his agent, Dede Binder, officially announced the actor’s passing, according to USA Today reports.

The Hollywood actor was best known in the character role of Anthony Bouvier on the hit comedy television sitcom show, “Designing Women” which aired from 1986 to 1993 on CBS. Bouvier’s character – a former convict that was falsely accused of robbery – was hired by Julia Sugarbaker, a Atlanta, Georgia home designer; Julia Sugarbaker, played by Actress Dixie Carter and her rich quirky sister, Suzanne Sugarbaker, played by Delta Burke, both owned the business.

The two southern belles of Sugarbaker Designs had four main women characters that co-owned and invested into the business, Actress Annie Potts who played designer, Mary Jo Shively and Jean Smart who played the office manager, Charlene Frazier Stillfield.

The Emmy- nominated celebrity appeared in numerous television shows such as Nickelodeon’s “Women of the House” and Disney Channel’s hit show, Hannah Montana, who ironically played a fashion designer; he also appeared in CBS and NBC station shows.

The veteran TV star has also been credited with movie roles, “The Right Connections with MC Hammer, co-starred with actress Brooke Shields in “Nothing Lasts Forever,” “Virtual Seduction,” “Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child” and "Double, Double, Toil and Trouble with the Olsen Twins.”

The HGTV host had his very own show, “Meshach Taylor’s Hidden Caribbean” which aired on the Travel Channel in 1996; his last television role appearance was in 2014, with a reprised role in “The Road Home,” preceding the quick decline of his health due his terminal illness. .

According to USA Today, the Taylor family wrote the following statement on their Facebook page, "It is with love and gratitude that we sorrowfully announce that our darling, amazingly brilliant and dynamic, Meshach, the incredible father, husband, son and friend has begun his grand transition,"

Meshach Taylor, dead at age 67, was surrounded by his loving family before he passed on, is remembered by his loving wife, Bianca Ferguson, four children, daughters Tamar Taylor, Esme Taylor, Yasmine Taylor, son Tariq Taylor and their four grandchildren.
