Meryl Streep, Cameron Diaz and Milla Jovovich are in talks for the "The ExpendaBelles" movie, which is the female equivalent of the action franchise "The Expendables," according to the movie's producer Avi Lerner.
Lerner (who owns the production companies Millennium and Nu Image) told Standart News: "The action movie will be spectacular – and in nothing inferior to the three male movies of the 'The Expendables.' There will be battles, special and visual effects and stunts; the spectacle will be equivalent to what Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis and Jean Claude van Damme have done ... Two excellent screenwriters are already working on the picture. Now we are in search of a female director."
The movie's screenwriters are Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith, who worked together on the 2001 hit comedy "Legally Blonde." "The ExpendaBelles" will take place in Brunei and will be filmed in Bulgaria.
"The Expendables" franchise, headlined by Sylvester Stallone, features an all-star cast in every movie.
The first "Expendables" movie, released in 2010, was a sleeper hit and had $275.4 million in ticket sales worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. The cast included Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundrgen, Terry Crews and Randy Couture. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis had cameos in the movie.
"The Expendables 2" had the previously mentioned stars, with Schwarzenegger and Willis having larger roles. Joining "The Expendables" franchise for this sequel were Jean Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and Liam Hemsworth. The movie had had $300.4 million in ticket sales worldwide.
""The Expendables 3" (which is due out in the U.S. and Canada on Aug. 15, 2014) has the biggest star-studded cast of the franchise so far: Stallone, Statham, Lundgren, Crews, Li, Couture, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas and Kelsey Grammer. Willis had been set to do the movie but famously had a falling out with Stallone, who went on Twitter to say that Willis was out of "The Expendables 3" because Willis asked for too much money. Willis was replaced by Ford.
