After 10 weeks of competition Olympic gold medalist, Meryl Davis, and pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy win season 18 of Dancing with the Stars and the coveted mirror ball trophy beating out Amy Purdy and Candace Cameron Bure. In tonight's finale amongst all the appearances of the other celebrities from the season, the three remaining couples had to perform a fusion dance, where they fuse two completely different dance styles into one dance. Each couple only had 24 hours to prepare this dance adding another layer of pressure to this finale.
Here are where each couple stood after the final dance round:
Amy and Derek- Argentine Tango/Cha Cha 30 out of 30 points, 90 finale points total
Meryl and Maks- Foxtrot/Cha Cha 30 out of 30 points, 89 finale points total
Candace and Mark- Quickstep/Samba 27 out of 30 points, 78 finale points total
Viewer votes were tallied and combined with the judges points and for the 18th season of Dancing with the Stars:
Candace and Mark came in third
Amy and Derek were the runner up
And Meryl and Maks take home the gold! Or the Mirror Ball trophy! Even though this was a big night for Meryl this was a long time coming for Maksim Chmerkovskiy who has 13 seasons of DWTS under his belt. The relationship that was developed between Meryl and Maks this season was nothing short of an endearing heartwarming one. We saw Maks go from an out spoken bad boy of the ball room to a dancing teddy bear and the audience has Meryl to thank for that.
"It's plastic, but is means so much," Maks referring to the mirror ball trophy. "And when it's lasted a decade running after, it means so much more, and to do it with Meryl is a dream come true. There is a reason why it didn't happen before. This was meant to happen with this one."
Be sure to tune into ABC this fall for the 19th Season of Dancing with the Stars
