As expected Meryl Davis and Charlie White delivered at the Olympic figure skating team event today, February 8. Going in as the favorites after being undefeated for almost two years, this powerful team came out and skated like champions.

Davis and White’s performance put them into first place, giving the team another 10 points and putting Team USA currently in third place, awaiting Ashley Wagner’s skate later today. The pressure is now on Ashley’s shoulders to give a strong enough performance to keep Team USA in the top five teams which will continue onto the free skate, where the bottom five teams will be eliminated.

"We're really excited to be back in the hunt for a medal," Meryl told the media, "Charlie and I were definitely focused on our performance today. Now that we're done, it's nice to see the US back on top there."

Coming in behind Davis and White are Canadian rivals Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. Tessa struggled with her twizzles putting Virtue and Moir three points behind Davis and White. The rivalry will continue if both Team Canada and Team USA continue on, where they will face off once again in the free skate and later on in the Games in the individual ice dance event. It will be an exciting showdown for sure.

Skating into third place was Russians, Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev, who had a strong performance as they are working to fight off France’s Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat. This ice dance competition is somewhat of a prelude to the individual ice dance event which is heating up very quickly.
