Mershon, Drexel takes care of Towson

Hollie Mershon led Drexel (15-6, 8-2 CAA) with 19 points and six assists in their 62-48 victory over the Towson Tigers on Tuesday night. In what was somewhat of a “ho-hum” game, Drexel trailed 1-0 in the opening minute but then a three by Meghan Creighton gave the Dragons the lead for good.

Nearly every player for Drexel scored for the second consecutive game; including a season-high nine points for reserve junior forward Tory Thierolf. Taylor Wootton finished with eight points while reserves Abby Redick and Renee Johnson-Allen each had six.

With scoring 19 points, Mershon passed Debbie Ponist for 12th on the all-time Drexel scoring list. Now the star senior guard is only 16 points behind former teammate Jasmina Rosseel, who is the 11th leading scorer in Drexel history.

The Dragons now have a few days to prepare for a big revenge game on Sunday against the Old Dominion Monarchs. Back on Thursday January 31st, ODU defeated Drexel in Norfolk, 53-50, handing Drexel its second conference loss of the year.
