Mersey Beat founder examines John Lennon's Liverpool roots in new book

As part of the celebration of the Liverpool John Lennon Season, there's a new book by Bill Harry, founder and editor of the seminal music paper Mersey Beat, called "In My Life: Lennon's Liverpool," about John Lennon's roots.

This book goes back to Lennon's early life in the city and features personal anecodes from Harry, whose Mersey Beat newspaper reported on the Liverpool music boom as it happened, and also parallels the story of the two men's successes.

For Lennon's story, it looks at his birthplace, his childhood homes, his relationships with his friends and lovers, his popular haunts such as Ye Cracke, Gambier Terrace and the Blue Angel Club and the early gigs from the Casbah to the Cavern.

The book's publisher, Trinity Mirror NW, has also published "The McCartneys: In the Town Where They Were Born" by Kevin Roach, a wonderful book tracing the life of the McCartney family tree before and during the days of the Beatles. (See our review here.)

I hope he has something new other than the same stuff he has done before on John.

It looks interesting. And he is, after all, should know a lot. Why are you guys so negative? Each book is a little different. I have my own book, would never dream of putting down someone else who worked hard at writing a book, or created any other work of art. I am against exploitative or slanderous works, which I am sure this is not. Judith
