Fiscal-Fashion Experts Create Wardrobes and Interior Décor for Those in Need
St. Louis (August 23, 2013) – MERSGoodwill and St. Louis-based Coolfire Media have partnered to create an online television series entitled “Thrift Shop Divas” which will launch on Wednesday, Sept. 18. With the tagline, “They never know what they’ll find, but they’re crafting hope one thrift at a time”, the show follows a team of financially savvy fashion experts as they upcycle materials from Goodwill stores into beautiful wardrobes and one-of-a-kind home interiors for people in need. The show was created and co-produced by independent producer Erik Light.
The show features three Divas - Naomi, an 87 year-old seamstress and fashion designer, who has gained a local reputation for her ability to transform thrift shop finds into highly-crafted wardrobes. Naomi joins Susannah, a frugal fashion blogger/stylist who writes Her Goodwill Hunting, and Jenny B, a do-it-yourself home designer and owner of South City's funky design studio Jipsi Boho to touch the hearts of underprivileged St. Louisans while staying on a tight budget.
“This show has been a fun opportunity for MERS Goodwill to get involved in the community in a new and different way,” said Dr. Lewis Chartock, President and CEO of MERS Goodwill. “It’s great to see Goodwill stores being used as a resource by our community to help those in need, and now viewers of this show will be able to experience that.”
Creator Erik Light first developed the concept for “Thrift Shop Divas” after meeting Naomi in a Goodwill store in St. Louis and, eventually, Jenny B and Susannah were added to the cast. The episodes will feature the three women as they undertake projects ranging from designing a pageant gown for a girl with disabilities to decorating an apartment for a woman and her kids who are struggling to make ends meet.
“We applaud MERS Goodwill for being willing to jump in and get behind this series. They really understand the power of storytelling for their business and they’ve been terrific partners in creating this web show,” said Jeff Stevens, Director of Content Innovation at Coolfire Media.
Tune in to the Season Premiere of “Thrift Shop Divas” on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
