Merlin Schumacher fought his was through a field of over 1,200 "Yu-Gi-Oh!" players to become the victor of the final championship event for 2013. Schumacher wasn't the only winner this past weekend in San Mateo, Calif. Nolan Galvao was crowned the champion of the "Dragon Duel" event, a separate circuit just for players born in the year 2001 or later.
Both Schumacher and Galvao won the valuable ultra rare prize card Number 106: Giant Hand, an exclusive play mat, and an invitation for next year's world championship qualifier event.
Schumacher was playing a "Dragon Ruler Deck," an archtype that "display(s) some unique strategies and showcased the depth of "Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG.""
Both winners then faced against each other in an epic grudge match to see who was best of the best. It was Galvao of San Lorenzo, Calif. who ultimately took home the trophy and recognition.
The card game, which is produce by Konami, has had many video game adaptations over the years - the latest of which is "Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM," which can be played on Facebook and iOS.
