German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy have been negotiating for months in an effort to rescue the Euro from a total collapse. Also, they have been the key figures in attempting to prevent a total collapse of the Greek economy under an enormous foreign debt by giving it even more loans. Even though some of the earlier loans may be forgiven, there is no end in sight for Greece. In fact, about 21% of the Greek population are considered to be living below the poverty level. Besides Greece, the economies of Portugal, Spain and Italy are also on the verge of collapse. In the middle of this crisis, inexplicably, the EU is currenlty discussing further sanctions on Iran. As a result, the price of oil went up today for the second day in a row. The increased price of oil can only harm the EU economy even further. But, it appears that reality has not dawned on the Europeans yet. They continue to follow US policies blindly.
Since Merkel and Sarkozy are the main players in the EU negotations on the rescue of the Euro, a remake of a famous 1963 British comedy sketch, entitled, "Dinner for One," has gone viral. In this video, Merkel is an old lady having monthly dinners with imaginary guests, including former Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou and British Prime Minister David Cameron. Sarkozy is the servant who serves the wine and provides company to Merkel. See this short video, which has partial English subtitles, by cliking on it on the left.
