Merfolk of the Depths is one of the newest Hybrid cards from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set "Gatecrash." Featured in the "Simic Synthesis" intro pack, Merfolk of the Depths adds a flash of flair to limited games.

When giant sinkholse opened across Ravnica, they revealed buried oceans and the merfolk, once thought to be extinct.
Six mana is a lot for a 4/2 creature, however Merfolk of the Depths has Flash which can help you steal games out of nowhere. Picture a tight limited game, where both player's life totals are in the single digits. Casting Merfolk of the Depths during your opponent's turn will allow you to attack with it on your next turn, screwing up your adversary's combat math and potentially winning you the game.
It's important to note that as a Merfolk creature Merfolk of the Depths gains a bonus from Master of the Pearl Trident. Will it round off the higher curve of a new "fish" deck packing Augur of Bolas, and Talrand, Sky Summoner? Probably not. Merfolk of the Depths may not be the most powerful creature we've seen, however you don't need to get ahold of the premium foil version for it to flash your opponent.
