Meredith Vieira first women to host American Olympic evening coverage solo

Meredith Vieira will be the new face of the NBC Olympics evening coverage. Viewers will see the temporary replacement as Bob Costas is still sick. Her first day at the new job in Sochi begins on Friday when she hosts the evening coverage of the Winter Olympics. According to the Los Angeles Times on Friday, Vieira is the first women to host American Olympic evening coverage solo.

Meredith Vieira needs to thank Bob Costas’ eyes for this opportunity. For NBC fans it is just not the same to watch the show without Bob Costas. NBC has been trying to get someone, but it's been tough for them too. After Bob Costas got too sick to carry on with his duties, the Olympic coverage was passed on to Matt Lauer. Everyone loves Matt, but he has been pulling double duty with the Today show so it was time for another change

Meredith Vieira is one spunky reporter and this change might be interesting for fans watching the nightly show. The NBC host has covered plenty of news, culture and was the host of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, so why not use Meredith to fill in?

While Bob Costas has Olympic size eye issues, there has been no word on when the sportscaster returns. However when he does there will be parties across America as the Olympic world without the sportscaster’s commentary just isn't the same!
