Meredith Vieira has officially announced that she will no longer be at the helm of one of the country’s most popular game shows after the current season wraps up. There is speculation if the man who holds the current record for hours logged in front of a TV camera.
The still popular Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? is not in trouble. In fact, despite multiple changes from its original network TV formulation still keeps things fresh with the occasional gimmick weeks, such as the recent “Cruise in and Win” week.
Millionaire airs on KXJB Channel 4 in the Fargo-Grand Forks-Moorhead market at 4:00 PM and runs back to back episodes.
The current TV rumor mill is turning to the man who started the popular game show, here in the United States. Millionaire was based on a popular British game show that has variations on TV channels around the globe.
People are wondering if Regis Philbin may be coming back to the show. The almost indefatigable Philbin declined doing the syndicated version of the show after it left ABC in 2002 and went into first-run syndication.
Since then he also stepped down from the Live program that he started as a local talk show in New York with Kathy Lee Gifford. The show is now co-hosted by Kelly Rippa and Michael Strahan. The show airs in the Fargo-Grand Forks-Moorhead market weekdays at 9:00 AM on KVLY channel 11.
Besides the very rare visit with David Letterman, the only regular place that Philbin increases his lead on the number of TV hours he has logged, are the monthly co-hosting duties with Rachael Ray. These monthly visits with Ray can be seen in the Fargo-Grand Forks-Moorhead market on WDAY/Z channels 6 and 8 at 9:00 a.m. on weekdays.
There doesn’t seem to be any indication that the still popular game show is planning on ending after Vieira’s departure. The reason that the popular game show host has given for leaving the show is the possibility of doing news projects with NBC and launching her own Youtube channel.
