The powerhouse group that recorded the smash hit "I Can Only Imagine" a few years ago and has since released standout records like Undone and All That Is Within Me is at it again. MercyMe is slated to release their new album, The Hurt and the Healer, on May 24. The CD will be the first that the band has released since their record label, INO, was renamed to Fair Trade Services. The first single from the album will be the title track, and is expected to be released to radio shortly according to the band's official website. The Hurt and the Healer, available for pre-order through ChristianBook.com,will be MercyMe's ninth studio album to date.
MercyMe, originally from Texas, recorded half a dozen independent albums before the release of their studio album debut, Almost There. The album was a huge success due to the across-the-board popularity of "I Can Only Imagine," but that success was delayed until the group's sophomore album, Spoken For. The song moved up the Christian charts relatively quickly, but did not explode with airplay popularity across the AC, mainstream, and country charts until the band was in the midst of the release of singles "Word of God Speak" and "Spoken For."
Although Charleston has been visited by MercyMe frequently over the past several years since the success of the "Undone" tour in 2005, the closest stop for this year's "Rock and Worship Roadshow" among the list of currently scheduled dates is in Cincinnati on August 19 at the Great American Ballpark. The tour, which carries over its name from 2011, also includes Tenth Avenue North, LeCrae, Hawk Neslon, Disciple, Sidewalk Prophets, and Rend Collective Experiment.
