A family selling items in a 7-11 parking lot on Wednesday evening found themselves the victims of an apparent robbery attempt that left a 52-year-old man in the hospital with a gunshot wound, the Colorado Springs Police Department reported.
The police responded to the scene on Fountain Blvd shortly before 8:30 PM. Their investigation revealed that the wounded man and his family had been confronted by three suspects. During a struggle, the man was shot and other members of his family were possibly hit with a stun gun, hit in the head with an unknown object and threatened with a gun.
According to KKTV, a witness reported that the suspects were all wearing hoodies and Halloween masks and the gunshot victim -- who was shot in the stomach -- may have been able to slash the neck of one of the suspects.
The police, themselves, say that the descriptions of the suspects are vague and no suspect information is being given at this time. Robbery detectives were brought to the scene to assist in the investigation. Police dogs were also used, KKTV reported, though they were unable to track the suspects down.
The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital with what the police described as "serious, but non life threatening injuries."
