Trying to find Mercedes Benz performance parts can be a hard task. There isn't many aftermarket part producers for certain models. The most affordable models are much harder to find performance parts. Take the 2001 C240 as example with minimal aftermarket performance modifications available to purchase online. It is hard to find individual parts, but it is possible to purchase expensive upgrade kits from various racing teams and companies.
Top Mercedes Benz performance parts:
Not all performance modifications to a Mercedes Benz have to be done by expensive performance kits. Mercedes-Benz vehicles are some of the most difficult and finicky vehicles to modify. If the ECU senses anything is wrong, it will revert to a "safe" map. Mercedes-Benz vehicles featuring the DB2+ fiber optic loop system have some of my most advanced automotive computers known to man, but at the same time by modifying this computer system the right way you can gain much more just by programming. By using a "StarDiagnostics" mercedes-benz authorized computer you can edit and effectively "hack" the vehicle. You can change multiple preferences about the vehicle including logistics, appearance, performance, and handling.
Do not use K&N air filter's or other oil based air elements in your Mercedes-Benz vehicle. Any Mercedes-Benz featuring a "Bosch" mass air meter will not work with K&N oil based air filters. The Bosch air mass meters are some of the most sensitive in the industry, any contamination such as oil, dirt, dust, etc will ruin the sensor. Cleaning of these sensors will work in some cases, but ultimately it leads to incorrect air intake readings. These incorrect readings will cause "ESP" errors and result in safe map plus error screen on your HUD. The entire HUD turns red and is very annoying on some models. This critical error is all caused by use of K&N oil based air filters. Paper or foam based air filters are recommended for performance modified Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Furthermore, Mercedes can be modified safely by doing the following modifications that will not result in computer error:
- Exhaust
- Spark plugs
- Fuel pumps
- Pulleys
- ECU programming
- Thermal mods (wraps, sprays, etc)
Note: Mercedes-Benz vehicles can be modified completely if properly tuned for. With stock tuning, only minimal performance gains can be made. StarDiag is recommended for tuning! Older model Mercedes-Benz 1990-2000 can be modified slightly more. Before 1990 are the best models for tuning and performance because they contained minimal amounts of computer equipment. If you do not have access to specialized tuning equipment, try tuning a post 90's Benz.
