Mercadito launches third annual 'Tacos For Strength' with Chef Andrew Zimmerman

For the third year running, Mercadito will be hosting a monthly campaign called "Tacos for Strength" at all four of the restaurant's locations. Starting today, Jan. 1, head to Mercadito -- in New York, Miami, or Chicago -- and grab a signature taco. Five percent of all signature taco sales at Mercadito will be donated to Share Our Strength, an organization that battles childhood hunger.

In the month of January, Chef Andrew Zimmerman, of Sepia, has created an Indian-inspired dish: chicken tikka tacos. This flavorful dish combines chicken tikka masala with a spicy marinade of Indian spices, including coriander, cumin, turmeric, ginger, cayenne, Garam Marsala, cardamom, as well as garlic and chili paste. The tacos are then topped with even more bold flavors from cilantro and red onion, as well as a cool cucumber raita sauce.

Chef Patricio Sandoval, who started the program, said in a recent press release, "With the Tacos for Strength program, we see the best of top chefs' cuisines reflected in their taco recipes, but we also see their imagination come into play when they take a different route and experiment with the foods they like to eat in their free time."

Every month a new chef will offer a new Tacos for Strength recipe that promises to delight the taste buds including such chefs as Rick Tramanto of Tru and Jonathan Waxman of Barbuto. For a full list of chefs, go here.
