Grabbing a quick bite doesn't have to be void of big, bold flavors. Beginning Monday, August 25, Mercadito Counter will open its doors in the River North area. Executive Chef Patricio Sandoval takes traditional quick service items and offers twist on the perennial favorites.
“I was inspired my childhood in Acapulco, and I wanted to blend those traditions with some of my favorite foods from the States,” says Sandoval. “We wanted to bring Chicagoans something casual, approachable, and filled with personality.”
Menu highlights from the Mexican deli-inspired menu include:
smoked and fried pork dog with mole barbeque sauce, jalapeño slaw, mustard, and crispy onion springs
grilled dog topped with lobster salad, chipotle ketchup, and crispy potatoes
Chicken a las Brasas
pan-fried chicken marinated in either adobo, garlic-vinegar, or epazote-chile verde, served with rice, beans, and tortillas
Burrito Puerto Vallarta
smoked fish, blackened shrimp, gouda, refried beans, avocado, habanero-serrano crema, lettuce, tomato, and onion in a flour tortilla
Mexican Onion Rings
chipotle-battered Vidalia onions
Mercadito Counter Burger
rib eye and short rib burger with jalapeño emulsion, manchego cheese, and grilled scallions
Sandoval is also serving guacamole by the quart, tortillas by the dozen, a variety of Mexican cheeses, and house-blended spices at the restaurant’s deli counter. Additionally, the menu will include a daily-changing soup special, all-day breakfast, and a weekly tamale special.
Mercadito Counter is located at 738 N. Clark Street.
