Mental Wellbeing

How are you feeling mentally? Do you believe it is possible to have a healthy mental wellbeing or do you think this is something only found in a fairy tale? Is it normal to move through life feeling overwhelmed and mentally drained or is there more to life?

You are not on an island by yourself; utilize the support that surrounds you.
Lifetime Art Impressions, LLC photo shares a description of mental wellbeing as defined by the World Health Organization, "Mental health and wellbeing is the state in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with normal stresses of life, can work productively, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community"

It is important to understand this healthy mindset in order to embrace it.

To realize what you can and cannot do is major in achieving a healthy wellbeing. Why? Because if you are stressing over something you do not have any control over, you are causing your body unnecessary trauma. If you struggle with this, try repeating the Serenity Prayer to help ground you and counter this stress. “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference."

What causes your anxiety? Life stressors create emotional turmoil. This might be finances, your kids, your job and so forth. Understand your triggers so you’re better able to proactively assess these stressors and then offset each with a realistic mindset. Once you feel the stress, breathe oxygen into it, and figure out if there is anything you can do and if not, give it to God or whatever higher power you experience.

It is equally important to understand how you cope. Are these mechanisms healthy or not? Healthy ways to combat anxiety might include exercise, creativity and interfacing with supportive friends. Gambling, substance abuse, and excessive spending are examples of unhealthy coping mechanisms.

Life involves challenge. If you can look at these challenges as learning experiences, you’ll get through each episode easier with less stress.

A healthy mind gifts productivity and support back into the world. Remember the phrase, “it takes a village,” this is true not only with raising children but with combating life circumstances in general. We all need support. It is necessary, at times, to lean on others. We’re not meant to be in this world alone; we need fellowship.

We do not live in a fairy tale; you can boost your mental wellbeing. This stuff is real and with a little practice, you can change and realize a healthier you. Give it a try, you're worth it!
