A mental health, and substance abuse treatment facility is scheduled to open in early 2013 adding much needed services in the city of Detroit.
Behavioral Centers of America, (BCA), a psychiatric health care chain based out of Nashville, TN has announced plans to alter the former Saratoga Hospital on Gratiot into an inpatient mental health center. BCA is spending $20 million for the change.
The facility, named the StoneCrest Center, will be at: "...15000 Gratiot Ave., has a 90-bed inpatient program for adults, adolescents, seniors and developmentally delayed. In early 2013, StoneCrest is expected to open a substance abuse and addiction program," according to crainesdetroit.com.
Roderick Parker, StoneCrest's director of marketing, and business development says the center will be the only acute-care mental health hospital in Detroit.
Coupling mental health with a substance abuse treatment center is needed in the city. Often, persons with mental health problems also have substance abuse issues, and have no where to turn for specialized help. These people end up too often in the criminal justice system, and/or emergency rooms ill-equipped to deal with the problems.
Buddy Turner, CEO of Behavioral Centers, said in a statement, "We are already about halfway through a $20 million, three-phase investment in Detroit, turning a formerly bankrupt eastside hospital into a major regional mental health asset with new models of diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care through our commitment to the single specialty of psychiatric health care."
With substance abuse, and mental health issues often found together, this center will provide much needed services as well as bed space to treat these folks.
