On June 3 the Human Options Mens Task Force received the Ambassador of Peace Award on behalf of the Violence Prevention Coalition of Orange County.
Steve Churm the Chairman of the Men's Task Force, also publisher of OC METRO and OC Family magazines, along with Gary Van Arnam, former Human Options Board President, accepted the award for the group.
Human Options’ Men’s Task Force encourages men to fight domestic violence in the community through education and fundraising.
In 2002 Human Options’ President Van Arnam decided that it was time for men to come together and take a stand against domestic violence. This led to the creation of the organization.
At the groups encouragment Human Options created a program called Jason’s Story, led by Robert Diaz. Diaz speaks to more than 13,500 teenagers annually and tells the story of Jason, a star athlete who abused his girlfriend – and the grave consequences he faced because of it.
This was the first time a group, rather than an individual, has been honored with the Ambassador of Peace Award.
