According to the Washington Post on Monday, the escort who accused Democratic Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey of hiring her as a prostitute now says that the senator was framed. The woman reportedly has confessed to Dominican authorities that she was paid, but not for sex by the senator. She now claims that she was paid to make the story up. The truth is that she has never even met or seen Menendez.
Affidavits received by the Washington Post reveal that the woman now claims a local lawyer came to her and another escort, asking them both to set-up Menendez and Salomon Melgen who is a top financial donor.
A second Dominican lawyer who has been identified in the underhanded set-up says that he gave the woman a script to follow. He paid her to recite the claims. The initial lawyer says that he initially did not know that the escort’s comments were going to be recorded and used against the New Jersey senator.
Specifically, a 23-year-old escort, Nexis de los Santos Santana, claims she was hired by Miguel Galvan – a lawyer – to do a tape-recorded interview in October of last year. She was told by the lawyer that her false story was needed for a divorce case - and nothing about framing a United States politician was mentioned.
In the fall, as Menendez sought reelection, and this year as he became chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the two women have been claiming that they had sex with the senator, accompanied by allegations that he had patronized prostitutes in the Dominican Republic while he was on vacation. Going back to last spring, there were emailed-allegations to the FBI which accused Menendez of having sex parties arranged by Melgen as well as patronizing underage prostitutes.
As Menendez has denied any wrongdoing and has insisted that the smears were to hurt his reelection chances, the FBI has found none of the allegations against him to be true.
The video-taped smear against Menendez initially appeared on the Daily Caller last year. The videotape had the two women, with their faces obscured for anonymity’s sake, claiming they met the senator around Easter time last year at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic. They said, initially, that they were to be paid $500 for engaging in sex acts with Menendez but only received $100. Now, it is learned that the entire sordid story was a lie.
By Tuesday morning, the Daily Caller is saying that the Washington Post's account of the affidavit and the escorts' comments is all wrong. Therefore, this story is "developing" - or perhaps "imploding" might be a better word for it. Stay tuned.
