As reported on Tuesday, offensive coordinator Greg Olson told the press that Watson is to fill in the gap after Jared Veldheer sustained a triceps injury that will keep him out for most of the season.
Watson has only played the right tackle when he played for Saddleback College. However, the player has very fast feet due to his history of being an excellent basketball player, which he played in college as well, and having many years of being a soccer player.
Menelik Watson, on the bad side, has been injured during the practices. So, his starting responsibility as the left tackle is a gutsy move by the Oakland Raiders.
On top of being handed a vital position in such short notice, Watson will be playing most of the game, meaning he will be playing with the 2nd and 3rd stringers after the starters hit the bench.
Offensive coordinator Greg Olson called Watson’s situation “baptism by fire.”
Oakland Raiders’ fans will have to see if Menelik Watson will live up to this huge expectation on Thursday evening. Hopefully, this guy will be on fire and provide enough time for Terrelle Pryor to use his magic.
Good luck to Watson and just win baby!
