If you’re looking for a romantic vacation for Valentine’s Day, look no further than your own backyard in Mendocino County. What could be better than sitting in a steamy hot tub watching the sunset drinking some sparkling wine with the person you love most in the world? How about having all of that within 3 and a half hours of San Francisco?

Driving is the only way to get there and driving up Highway 1 will only add to the vacation with it’s stunning views of the ocean and coast. There are many Bed & Breakfasts, but a fun alternative is to rent a house for the weekend to have your own space and not have noisy neighbors in the next room.

There are many activities in the area that can add to a great getaway. Two fun beaches are Bowling Ball Beach and Glass Beach in Fort Bragg. Glass Beach was created due to the residents of Fort Bragg throwing their trash onto the beach early in the 20th century. The beach has been cleaned up and all that remains are the small, smooth pieces of glass. The beach is colorful and the California Department of Parks and Recreation want it to remain that way, so there is no collecting the glass. Bowling Ball beach is located just south of Point Arena off Schooner Gulch Road. The beach is named after the almost perfectly rounded boulders.

Both beaches are free to the public and can add some memorable photos and memories to your Valentine’s Day escape.
