Men's Golf finish fifth in home tournament

UTSA hosted the Oak Hills Invitational on Monday and Tuesday and had a successful two days on the greens as they finished fifth in the team standings.

Ryan Werre lead the Roadrunners as he managed a two-under 211 to finish in equal third place, just five strokes behind Baylor's Kyle Jones who finished with a final round 67 for a seven-under 206.

It was a tight race in the team standings with just 11 strokes separating first place and UTSA in fifth place, with the Roadrunners only trailing nationally ranked schools and even beating No. 32 Tulsa who were eight back.

No. 44 Oklahoma lead the way beating out No. 36 North Texas by one stroke with 862 from three rounds while No. 40 Baylor finished in third with a three round 869.

The result continues UTSA's great start to the year after winning the Rice Intercollegiate last week and was their best finish in their own even since finishing third in 2007.

Garrison Lackey was UTSA's other top ten finisher as he carded a three-over 216 for a share of tenth place.

UTSA sat in 108th in the Golfweek rankings coming in to this tournament and should climb higher following this result.
