Men dig up dead bodies in China to sell as 'ghost brides' to mourning parents

In China, there is a 3,000 year-old ritual that is performed by the parents of a boy who died before he’d had a chance to res. According to tradition, the deceased men must be laid to rest with a wife to get into the afterlife.

The burial rites and rituals are usually worked out by the families of the deceased. Xian Evening News is claiming that four cold hearted men dug up the bodies of dead girls. They would do this in order to be able to sell the corpses to grieving parents.

The group of grave robbers would clean up the bodies and fabricated medical records. They then sold them for a high price and arranged the traditional burial ceremonies.

In Shaanxi province, a court listened to testimony about how the men had made a total of 240,000 Yuan which is $39,000 in dollars. They made this money from the sales of just 10 corpses. The men were sentenced to 28 to 32 terms for their crimes against the dead.

Coal mining accidents in north China make ghost marriages more common. The young men would die in coal mining accidents before they would have had an opportunity to marry.

With their economy doing well, families have been able to buy a bride for their lost son. “Ghost matchmaker’s have sprung up all over China but mainly in the rural parts.
