When it comes to immune systems men just have a weaker response
Men just seem to have a weaker immune system so when flu season starts they seem to have the “man flu”.
Leading us to the question of the day do men really suffer more? Hate to break the news ladies but in all actually they do.
Researchers from Ghent University in Belgium, Germany have confirmed that men actually have a right to complain about their colds and flu do to reality showing they just do not have a strong immunological reaction as women do.
Researcher’s theory as confusing as it may seem all center around those chromosomes.
Men usually have one XY and women have two XX. The difference is due to tiny pieces of X chromosome RNA, the chemical which sends genetic suggestions to cell’s protein factories, and mesh with genes in part explains the reasoning of why women live longer than their male counterparts and battle infections and trauma better than men.
There is skepticism on the theory of men and women being different with the flu, which comes from Dr. Don J. Diamond, director of translational vaccine and professor of virology at City of Hope in Duarte, California. During an interview with MSNBC Dr. Diamond had made a very valid point, if there is a major immune response difference than why are the same dosages in vaccines given to both men and women.
Dr. Diamond further notes that childhood vaccines like MMR have the same dosage for boys and girls and the flu vaccine has the same for both sexes. To date there has never been a vaccine in different doses depending on sex.
The suggestion is women just have a noted tolerance for pain and can tough out the flu. As Dr. Diamond explained women endure childbirth pain due to that higher threshold the flu could make women appear like “flu Vikings”.
Whether the theory from researchers is correct or not the fact remains the same. Women will endure colds and flu and men will make it know how miserable they feel.
However, just last year researchers from Cambridge University did lend some creditability to the “man flu”. According to Cambridge researchers men are more susceptible to infection due to evolution factors and hormone differences. Their theory had been published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B Journal.
According to the study past experiments have found differences of the ability to handle infections between men and women. Noting across a wide span of animals, males seem to be the weaker of the sexes as far as immune defenses go. Noting that high testosterone levels according to researchers lead to more colds and flu.
Researchers had also found that men have a predilection of taking risks of dangerous behaviors who have to compete to access of females therefore they would be more open to infections.
John Oxford, professor of virology at the University of London does not agree.
Stating that his team of researchers had intentionally infected both sexes with the flu virus. He notes there was no noticeable difference between recovery times or immunity.
One thing that is agreed upon, a weakened immune system will make you more susceptible to frequent colds and flu.
There is no cure for the cold and flu and over-the-counter medications will just mask the symptoms but you still will be sick.
There are ways to boost the immune system before cold and flu season starts a few of these include:
Chiropractic
Many studies have demonstrated that chiropractic care can boost the body’s immune system. Adjustments given by a chiropractor have demonstrated to raise the coordinated responses of both the nervous and immune system.
Tai Chi
Ancient practice Tai Chi not only helps the heart but gives a boost to the immune system and immune functioning and we all know exercise is one way to not only boost the immune system but help fend off unwanted colds and flu.
