From blues to rock-n-roll, Beale Street to Graceland, music goes hand in hand when speaking about the city of Memphis. Needless to say, many well known musicians have gotten their start in the Bluff City. So, if you are a musician trying to “get your foot in the door” or just want to make it onto the local Memphis music scene, then you need to know about the Memphis Music Foundation.
Recently, I was given the opportunity to visit the MMF and speak with the President of the foundation, Mr. Dean Deyo. I had no idea that this type of opportunity existed for the community here in Memphis and to say the least, I was extremely amazed.
If you are a local musician or someone looking to start a business in the music industry, then the Memphis Music Foundation is the place to start! With more and more artists taking their careers in their own hands and building their “businesses” from scratch, the MMF is exactly what they need to boost their success. Being the only free facility in the nation of this nature, local Memphis entrepreneurs should definitely take the time to check out the Memphis Music Resource Center. This center offers all the tools and resources that anyone would need to start their music career, and it’s all free! Access to attorneys, trademark information and website building are just a few of the tools available at the center.
The Memphis Music Foundation exists to educate the music community about music business systems and trends, help artists develop plans for future business growth, and create dynamic marketing and promotional opportunities for Memphis music.
As an effort to help the Memphis Shelby County Music Commission, The Memphis Music Foundation was formed. After determining that the two organizations should focus on different plans, they split. The Memphis Music Foundation then developed a plan to support Memphis music.
