Memphis International Raceway postpones opening weekend

On Friday, Feb. 14, the staff of Memphis International Raceway announced that due the current weather and conditions being forecasted, the opening weekend of racing, originally scheduled for Feb 15-16 had to be postponed until Feb 22-23.

"The 2014 season is shaping up to be a great season, we have a variety of racing events that cater to the casual race enthusiast, the die hard racer and for those that want to witness over 300 MPH racing, we have that also" said Pam Kendrick, Vice President and General Manager of Memphis International Raceway. "We have something for everyone and invite everyone out to the track!"

The Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams that was scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 16 has been rescheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2014. During that event, the track will host a double header weekend and overnight parking will be permitted.

On Saturday, Feb. 22, the track is pleased to announce a chance for drivers to go fast! Held on MIR's historic drag strip, Test and Tune sessions are open to all makes and models. Bring your favorite car or bike to MIR and see what it can run in the quarter-mile. Vehicles must pass a tech inspection and racers must have a valid driver's license. Gates open at 11:30 AM, Track Runs from 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM, Admission: $10 Spectator, $20 Racer, Children 12 & under FREE.

On Sunday, Feb. 23, the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams opens their 14-race series, culminating with the naming of Track Champion in each class and a bid to participated in the 2014 IHRA Team Finals in October.

The best of the best will compete to represent Team Memphis in October. Defending Class Champions are: Super Pro - Rusty Ashmore; Footbrake - David Ciarloni; R. T. Turbines DOT Cliff Hubbard and R. T. Turbines Junior Dragster - Justin Poindexter.

Gates open at 9:00 AM Time Trials begin at 11:00 AM , Admission: Super Pro (Electronics) - $50 entry, B & B Towing Pro/Footbrake (No Box) - $40 entry, R.T. Turbines D.O.T. Street - $35 entry, R.T. Turbines JR Dragster - $25 entry, Spectator & Crew - $10, Children 12 and under FREE.

It is my goal along with our entire team's goal to continue to build valuable partnerships that will allow us to expand our schedule and racing facilities," said Pam Kendrick, Vice-President of MIR.

In their latest sponsor announcement, Memphis International Raceway welcomes the return of RT Turbines, Inc. for the 2014 season. R.T. Turbines, located in Marianna, Arkansas will sponsor both the DOT and Junior Dragster racing classes for the 2014 season.

Turbines returns to MIR for the second year, we look to increase payouts for our racing program as well as continue to build the year-end points fund for both the DOT and Junior Dragster programs."
