Memorial Day is observed and celebrated today, Monday, May 26, 2014. While many Americans are celebrating Memorial Day by attending parades and wreath-laying ceremonies honoring America's fallen military heroes, some are wondering if their post office and banks are open Memorial Day. Most businesses and restaurants are open on the holiday, so the question, "Is there mail delivery on Memorial Day?" is understandably a common one.

The Times Union reported on Sunday, May 25, that due to Memorial Day being a federal holiday, all government offices will be closed on Monday, May 26. This includes all state and local U.S. post offices. Postal customers can still deposit their stamped bills and letters in post office boxes, but they won't be postmarked and mailed until tomorrow, Tuesday, May 27.

Meanwhile, according to My Fox DC on Monday, May 26, President Obama just returned home from visiting the troops in Afghanistan and plans to honor fallen troops Monday morning by hosting a Memorial Day breakfast at the White House. After breakfast, he plans on attending the wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Both events are free and open to the public.

U.S. Post Office is Closed Memorial Day 2014

Memorial Day is a federal holiday that is always observed on the last Monday of May. According to the USPS Post Office, there is no United States mail delivery on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2014. Memorial Day is a U.S. postal holiday, and all U.S. post offices are closed for business. This includes not only mail delivery to your residence or business, but also local post office lobby hours as well. Postal customers will have to wait until their local post office reopens on Tuesday, May 27 to conduct business again. Mail delivery will also resume on Tuesday as well. Is UPS and Fed Ex Delivering Packages on Memorial Day?

United Parcel Service and Federal Express - According to UPS, they observe Memorial Day, and will be closed on Monday, May 26. Likewise, Fed Ex reports they are also closed for business on Memorial Day, May 26 as well. Neither UPS or FED EX will provide pickup or delivery service on Memorial Day. They will both resume normal business hours, along with pickups and delivery on Tuesday, May 27.

Wondering if your local banks are open or closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2014? Most banks are not open on Memorial Day as well, although you may be lucky enough to find a few bank kiosks that are open inside your local supermarkets. Check here for a list of 2014 Bank Holidays.
