You still have time to hear the Brazos Valley Community Band perform its Spring Concert tonight, May 26, 2014. No reservations required, just show up at the Covenant Presbyterian Church in College Station, Texas, by 7:30 p.m. for some fun and inspiring music.
The Brazos Valley Community Band plays a wide variety of musical styles, including patriotic, blues, jazz and classical. Given today’s celebration of Memorial Day, music is bound to focus on patriotic numbers. At the band’s performance in March this year, the audience was regaled by pieces such as George M. Cohan’s Patriotic Fantasy, Cole Porter’s Begin the Beguine, and Colonel Bogey March. As far as instruments go, the talented musicians play everything from guitar and percussion to brass and woodwinds.
BV Community Band performs for area events around the region. In April, they played at the outdoor festival in Hearne, Texas, benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Robertson County. They are frequent visitors at First Fridays in Downtown Bryan, and have played in Calvert and Brenham, Texas, as well as other venues. The band is made up of volunteers who came to the band through no tryouts or auditions—just the love of music and dedication to perform.
The band welcomes new members. The only requirements are to have a love of music, a desire to have fun, and a commitment to practice. Rehearsals take place on Monday nights at Covenant Presbyterian. For more information, check out the band website or Facebook page.
