Members sought for national park overflight committee (Video)

Concerned about aircraft noise over national parks? Now's your chance to get involved in setting policy about it. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is taking applications for vacancies on the National Parks Overflights Advisory Group Aviation Rulemaking Committee.

The seat representing environmental interests has been vacant since a term ended last October and the FAA didn't get adequate responses to its previous attempts to fill the seat.

Anyone who previously applied is still being considered, but the FAA and National Park Service (NPS) want more people to apply.

The agencies are also taking applications for the seat to represent commercial air tour operators. That seat becomes vacant on May 19.

Terms last three years.

The deadline for applying for either seat is Feb. 22.

For details, see http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2013-01-24/html/2013-01381.htm.

The committee advises the FAA and NPS on implementing the National Parks Air Tour Management Act of 2000, quiet aircraft technology; and matters concerning safety, environment, etc.

Applicants should state what expertise they bring and any affiliation with environmental, tour or other involved organizations.
