The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) seeks members for the Recreational Fisheries Working Group of the Marine Fisheries Advisory Committee. NMFS announced on Monday, Dec. 23 that it wants to fill vacancies that start in February and can last as long as two years, with the possibility of reappointment.

NMFS says it seeks nominees with “demonstrable expertise in...management or business of recreational fishing and/or fisheries science, a well-informed background in recreational fisheries issues, (and/or) an operational knowledge of federal agencies and interactions with the fishery management councils and/or regional and state partners....”
Members should attend an annual meeting and quarterly conference calls.
Apply by Jan. 22. Members may get reimbursed for travel expenses but no pay.
The group consists of up to 25 member reflecting different sectors of the recreational fishing community. Up to 16 seats are available. The group advises the committee on policies, programs and procedures. The committee in turn advises the Department of Commerce on recreational fishing matters.
The matters to be addressed include reviewing and revising the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s national and regional recreational fisheries action agendas and planning for and
participating in a National Saltwater Recreational Fishing Summit.
