The D.C. Blues Society is saying goodbye to 2011 and hello to 2012 with a bash featuring the guitar fireworks of Melvin Taylor. Taylor will ring in the New Year in Wheaton, Maryland at the American Legion Post 268. The celebration will include a down home southern dinner buffet, a midnight champagne toast, party favors,a dance floor and Melvin Taylor and his band tearing it up on stage. Tickets are a bargain at $30 for members and $35 for non-members in advance and $35 and $40 at the door.
Melvin Taylor has toured Europe with the legendary Pinetop Perkins and has released seven albums of his own. Taylor has had the distinct pleasure of opening for blues giants B.B. King, Buddy Guy, George Benson and Santana. His website quotes Rolling Stone magazine stating he is “more a blues innovator than purist, mixing jazz chords and rock influences into his tapestry of electric blues.”
The venue is located close to the Wheaton Metro station and offers plenty of free parking nearby.
