Melissa Seitz introduces her new children's book

Melissa Seitz, a Bellbrook resident, is excited to introduce her first children’s book, “Stewie Meets New Friends.”

Inspired by her three year-old son, Brody, she brought to life a wonderful story of a little speedboat that moved to a new lake. Moving to a new neighborhood is not always easy, especially for a little one that misses his friends. Out to find new friends, Stewie takes the reader for a great adventure. He shows that making friends is as easy as you make it.

The book was, “created to be a series of stories involving a variety of watercraft and their journeys on Lake Lee Lee. To make the stories realistic, the characters are animated and interact with each other. The journeys will be new, exciting and educational. Each story will have a lesson and leave the children wanting more of Stewie and his friends,” Seitz said.

After Seitz’s son became fascinated with boats, she realized the shortage of children’s books that had vibrant stories about boats. She wanted to recapture the sparkle in her son’s eyes when he discovered boats. Night after night, she would invent adventurous stories that tantalized his imagination. Eventually, she started writing them down- Stewie the Speedboat was born.

After creating her colorful and spirited characters, Seitz searched for an illustrator that would bring to life her vision. Anthony Accrocco, a student of Sinclair’s Visual Communications program, brought Seitz’s words to a reality.

“I started writing the book in the summer of 2011 and completed a year later,” Seitz said. “It was a short story, but I re-wrote the story multiple times before I really liked it.”

Seitz is married and has a three-year old son and another baby on the way. She works full-time as a contract safety manager. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Science and a Master’s degree in Safety and Occupational Health. Her and her family love to play outdoors. She loves to take her son to the lake to see the boats. Seitz recently took up photography and enjoys taking pictures of her family and friends. With the help and encouragement of her family and friends, her dream of publishing has become a success.

“I am currently working on another book. I have so many ideas for many different books. I hope to have the second book of the series out in 2014.” Seitz said.
